AXARQUIA: When you think of the Costa del Sol you probably think of sun and beaches, but just inland from the coast is also the rolling landscape of the La Axarquía valley where olives, almonds, grains, wine, raisins and tropical fruits are cultivated. The small historical village of Cútar is hidden in the coastal mountians not far from the sea. In winter time there are only about 150 inhabitants. As the crow flies, it's less than 21 km to central Málaga, but because the roads wind through the landscape ,count on it taking 50 min by car. The beaches can be reached in 30 min, Granada and Alhambra in 1,5 hours, and Sevilla an hour more. Tangier, in Morocco, you can reach by car and ferry in just 4 hours from the village. laCultura is also a non-profit organisation which is politically, ideologically and religously unaffiliated. We work with art and culture. We give courses and greet guests. We research. We have an outdoor cinema - "walk-in" in the summer, and we participate in the local music - Verdiales. We enjoy cooperating with other artists, writers, researchers, teachers and culturally interested groups and individuals.
